Joint Statement
This Information and Communications Technology (ICT) project, is an opportunity provided by the University of Notre Dame, in order to broaden our understanding of how ICT can be implemented within the classroom as a learning tool not just a teaching tool. The project allows us to investigate the many ways in which ICT can complement student learning. It is an important part of our education studies because ICT is a general capability and is now built into the curriculum. It is no longer just a new technology, it is the world that we live in, hence we want our students to be able to use these technologies in order to achieve their full potential. As pre-service teachers it is our duty to be excellent ICT users so that we can benefit our students learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
Our ICT integration project has been developed for the learning area of humanities and social sciences (HASS) geography. It is in the form of a web quest for year three students, allowing them to investigate and develop their skills and understanding about climates. Across the four lessons, students will achieve the following:
Our goal is for the students to have developed lots of knowledge about climate & weather, so that by the end of the quest they have created a short report that showcases everything they have learned. We hope that our quest is exciting and becomes a valuable experience for the students, and we hope that through the use of our selected ICT tools we shall be able to achieve this objective.

Across the four lessons, students will achieve the following:
- Understand the difference between climate and weather, the main climatic zones of the world and the similarities and differences between the climates of different places (ACHASSK068)
- Locate and collect information and data from different sources, including observations (ACHASSI053)
- Interpret data and information displayed in different formats, to identify and describe distributions and simple patterns (ACHASSI057)
- Sequence information about people’s lives and events (ACHASSI055)
- Present findings and conclusions in a range of communication forms (e.g. written, oral, visual, digital, tabular, graphic), appropriate to audience and purpose, using relevant terms (ACHASSI061)
